A Bristol-based charity has delivered 34 generators to Ukraine in its latest mission to support people living in war-torn areas.
From Bristol with Love for Ukraine has been actively sending aid to Ukraine since the conflict escalated on February 24, 2022. To date, the organization has dispatched 71 vans filled with over 11,000 boxes of essential goods.
On July 6, the charity marked a significant milestone with a send-off ceremony for its latest delivery, attended by Bristol Mayor Andrew Varney, who gave a heartfelt speech.
“People think Ukraine is forgotten, but it isn’t,” said Dr. Ann Kennard, a dedicated volunteer. “This country has been very positive in its help, and we will not forget them.”
The charity operates from the Bristol International Centre for Ukraine on Greystoke Avenue. The journey to deliver the goods will take several days, with the team traveling by bus to Romania before crossing into Ukraine. The generators and other supplies will be distributed to community centers located in secure underground locations, providing citizens with places to charge electronic devices and cook.
The foundation relies heavily on public donations to continue its vital work.
“We have heard from our friends in Ukraine that they particularly need generators, and we are happy to help them,” said Dr. Kennard, a retired lecturer from the University of the West of England. She highlighted the extensive damage to Ukraine’s power infrastructure, noting that the three largest power plants in Kharkov have been completely destroyed.
“We know this is what they need, and everyone has been so generous,” she added.
The charity, From Bristol with Love for Ukraine, was founded by Dr. Razvan Constantinescu, the Honorary Consul of Romania in Bristol. The group has been overwhelmed with donations, enabling them to purchase and send the much-needed generators to support those affected by the ongoing conflict.
