Swiss manufacturer Studer has launched a new version of its popular favoritCNC universal cylindrical grinding machine. This upgraded model builds on years of experience in grinding and mechanical engineering, offering modern technology, high precision, and ease of use at an affordable price.
Sandro Bottazzo, CEO of Studer, emphasized, “With numerous new features, optimizations, and automation options, the favoritCNC is an economical solution for grinding small to medium-sized parts, both in individual and series production. It is perfect for high-quality contract manufacturing and in-house production alike.”
Key Features and Enhancements
The latest generation of the favoritCNC includes advanced Fanuc 0i-TFPCNC control, improved software, and enhanced automation features. A new automatic operating door and loader interface enable customers to automate their production processes. The machine also offers better sustainability, efficiency, and ergonomics for safer and easier operation.
Notable upgrades include a user-friendly grinding wheel change aid, an optional tailstock park position, and a redesigned machine base. The new design increases wheelhead stability, and the addition of a digital display for the B-axis swivel angle and a “QuickSet” function ensures faster re-tooling.
Flexible Configuration Options
Studer has prioritized flexibility in the new favoritCNC, especially for customers in the entry-level market. The machine offers two wheelhead options: a fixed wheelhead for external grinding and a universal wheelhead for both external and internal grinding. Users can also choose from a fixed or swiveling worktable, and there are options for measurement and balancing systems, grinding detection, and longitudinal positioning.
These flexible configurations allow the machine to be retrofitted for various grinding tasks and production needs.
High-Quality Components and Technology
The favoritCNC combines the best of hardware and software, leveraging Studer’s 112 years of expertise in manufacturing cylindrical grinding machines. High-quality components, such as the workhead, grinding spindles, guideways, and drives, meet the premium performance standards of Studer’s top models. The machine’s Granitan® S103 mineral casting bed ensures exceptional damping and thermal properties, resulting in excellent surface quality.
Easy Operation and Smart Software
With a 10.4-inch flat screen and an ergonomic manual control unit, the favoritCNC is designed for ease of use. Studer’s custom StuderPictogramming and StuderGRIND software make complex grinding processes intuitive to set up and control.
The new machine can now grind non-circular shapes and threads with Studer-Thread and StuderForm. Even employees with minimal CNC grinding knowledge can achieve high-quality results. Additionally, a new conventional grinding mode allows for manual grinding, making it easy to transition from conventional machines to CNC.
Bottazzo concluded, “The new favoritCNC is a versatile solution that meets the needs of a wide range of grinding applications.”
