Raymond Detention Center, a facility operated by the Hinds County Board of Supervisors, experienced a transformer failure on Friday, July 5, prompting an immediate switch to backup power. Othor Cain, spokesperson for the board, confirmed that the facility’s generator activated promptly after the outage.

In an email statement to 16 WAPT News, Cain assured that maintenance teams swiftly notified Entergy about the transformer issue and arranged for additional backup from Taylor Power to ensure continuous operation and safety at the center. Currently, the facility is maintained with cooling systems, fans, and other essential resources powered by the generator.

Cain added that the county is in collaboration with Entergy to procure a replacement transformer. Installation of the new equipment will be handled by contracted services at the earliest opportunity. Fortunately, there have been no reported medical emergencies related to the incident.
