Sandvik Coromant, a leader in metal-cutting tools and manufacturing solutions, has launched the CoroDrill DE10, its second-generation exchangeable-tip drill. Designed for high-volume drilling across various materials, the CoroDrill DE10 boasts an innovative geometry that combines easy setup with high cutting performance.
According to the company, the CoroDrill DE10 is engineered to tackle common drilling challenges, particularly for manufacturers aiming to produce large quantities of holes in one operation. The drill offers high-feed capabilities that boost productivity while reducing the cost per hole. Additionally, it simplifies operations by eliminating the need for a pilot hole, significantly lowering both tool inventory and cycle times.
Mikael Carlsson, a global product specialist for indexable rotating tools at Sandvik Coromant, highlighted the tool’s impact on the industry. He explained, “CoroDrill DE10 marks a new era in exchangeable-tip drills, demonstrating superior robustness and faster, easier tip changes. Testing has shown enhanced feed capacity, longer tool life, and lower cost per hole compared to competing solutions.”
Customer feedback underscores the drill’s effectiveness. One user, who faced issues with high cutting forces causing deformation on the drill body with previous solutions, reported no wear on the drill tip when using the CoroDrill DE10. This led to a 17% increase in productivity when drilling holes for a batch of gearbox housings. Another customer, who switched to the CoroDrill DE10 for drilling stainless-steel plates, saw a remarkable 43% increase in tool life and a 57% boost in productivity.
