VERNON, BC — Vernon Jubilee Hospital operated on backup generators for nearly an hour on Monday morning following a BC Hydro outage that left thousands of residents without power.

Interior Health confirmed the brief disruption in an email, stating, “A brief power outage resulted in Vernon Jubilee Hospital going to back-up generator power for about 50 minutes this morning.”

The outage impacted 4,283 customers in Vernon and Coldstream after a bird collided with BC Hydro wires. Power was out from 9:41 a.m. until about 10:28 a.m.

“Hospitals have generators in place to maintain continuity of care for patients in these situations,” Interior Health assured.
