Olectra Greentech Ltd has won a contract worth ₹424 crore from the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) to supply 297 electric buses. The order includes full maintenance of the vehicles and is expected to be completed within 11 months.
The buses will be delivered on an outright sale basis, with Olectra providing complete maintenance services. This agreement marks another step forward in Olectra’s effort to expand its range of zero-emission public transport solutions across India.
Himachal Pradesh, known for its sensitive ecosystem and hilly terrain, is looking to reduce diesel use and lower emissions. The new electric buses are expected to support this goal by offering a cleaner transport option. The move also supports India’s broader push toward green energy and sustainable public transport.
This contract adds to Olectra’s growing presence in the electric mobility space. As the public transport sector in India shifts towards electric vehicles, Olectra is emerging as a key player. National programs such as FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme are helping drive this transition by offering policy support and financial incentives.
Electric bus adoption is growing in several major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Falling battery prices and government subsidies have made electric buses a more affordable and practical option for public transport agencies.
Olectra is positioning itself as a major supplier in this shift. The company not only delivers electric buses but also manages long-term maintenance, ensuring reliable and efficient operations. Its increasing number of contracts reflect both trust in its technology and the effectiveness of its service model.
Established in 2000 and part of the MEIL (Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd) Group, Olectra has been central to India’s clean energy efforts. Its manufacturing facility in Hyderabad focuses on high-quality production and innovation. By doing so, the company is contributing to better urban air quality and helping achieve the government’s clean mobility goals.
With this latest contract, Olectra continues to strengthen its leadership in India’s electric bus market, offering sustainable solutions to meet the country’s growing transportation needs.
