A recent surge in generator thefts has led to the arrest of 11 individuals in Fairbanks over a five-day period, from July 24 to July 28. The suspects face second-degree theft charges, all related to allegedly stealing portable generators from the back of parked pickup trucks.
The thefts predominantly occurred along Farmers Loop Road and Chena Pump Road. In two notable incidents, pairs of suspects were apprehended for thefts that took place on July 28. Angel Ryan, 42, and Kelo Smoke, 48, were charged in connection with a generator stolen at 1:15 a.m. on Farmers Loop Road. Later that same morning, Jasmine Wright, 29, and Jacson Romine, 45, were arrested for a theft occurring at 6:20 a.m. on the same road.
The remaining seven cases involve individual suspects arrested for separate thefts. Alaska State Troopers, responding to reports of stolen generators, executed quick arrests—often the same day or nearly so.
Although not all charging documents specify the exact model of the stolen generators, those that do indicate that the stolen units were either Yamaha EF2000iS or Honda EU2000i models. The value of these generators ranges from $800 to $1,100.
Second-degree theft in Alaska is classified as a class C felony for items valued between $750 and $24,999. In contrast, third-degree theft, a class A misdemeanor, applies to items valued between $250 and $749.
The Alaska State Troopers have not provided additional comments on the cases. The individuals charged are: Jasmine Wright, 29; Kelo Smoke, 48; Jonathan Perry, 51; Lee Fricken, 28; Jacson Romine, 45; Aaron Willeford, 51; Jeffrey Heber, 56; Angel Ryan, 42; Karl Kietzman, 57; Lawrence Parris, 33; and Gena Wallis, 45.
