A newly unveiled 200-megawatt solar power facility by Salt River Project (SRP) near Coolidge, Arizona, is set to supply energy exclusively to Meta Platforms Inc.’s data center in Mesa. The Brittlebush Solar Park, a project developed in partnership with EDP Renewables North America LLC, marks EDP’s second operational venture in Arizona and the third collaboration with Meta, the parent company of Facebook.

Meta’s Mesa data center, located on a 396-acre site acquired in 2021 at the southeast corner of Elliot and Ellsworth Roads, was initially planned as an $800 million, two-building project. However, in 2022, Meta announced a significant expansion, increasing the project to five buildings with an investment exceeding $1 billion. The completion of the facility is anticipated by 2026.

“Arizona’s progressive policies and supportive business environment for innovative, sustainable technologies make it an ideal location for solar energy generation,” said Sandhya Ganapathy, CEO of EDP Renewables North America. “Our partnership with Salt River Project and Meta not only contributes to reducing carbon emissions but also brings local economic benefits and enhances Arizona’s energy portfolio. This is a project that all Arizonans can take pride in.”
