In a heart-wrenching incident at Isi Obehie, Ukwa West Local Government Area, Abia State, six members of a family tragically lost their lives due to generator fumes. The tragedy unfolded on Wednesday night on Ofoji Street, leading to widespread grief and mourning in the community.

Reports indicate that the family had left their generator running outside their residence with its windows open as they went to bed. The open windows allowed toxic fumes from the generator to infiltrate their living space, resulting in the fatal incident.

The deceased include a woman, her three children, her sister, and her brother-in-law. The father of the family was the sole survivor, having been away from home at the time of the incident. Five family members died at the scene, while the mother’s younger sister, who was found unconscious, succumbed to her injuries in the hospital on Thursday.

The victims, originally from Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area but residing in Isi Obehie, have not yet been officially named. Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death.
