Beijing, August 19, 2024 — The National Meteorological Center of China issued a stark warning this morning as Typhoon Jongdari, the ninth of the season, has emerged over the northwest Pacific Ocean. This powerful storm is anticipated to unleash gale-force winds across eastern China.
As of 5 a.m. today, Typhoon Jongdari was positioned 435 kilometers east of Taipei City, Taiwan, with maximum sustained winds reaching 18 meters per second near its center, according to the meteorological center.
The typhoon is projected to track northward at a speed of 15 to 20 kilometers per hour. It will advance into the East China Sea, where its intensity is expected to remain stable before gradually diminishing as it moves into the Yellow Sea.
From 8 a.m. Monday to 8 a.m. Tuesday, the typhoon is expected to generate severe gales across various regions, including the waters east of Taiwan, the Taiwan Straits, the East China Sea, and the coastal areas of Fujian and Zhejiang provinces.
