The Frank E. Van Lare Water Resource Recovery Facility in Irondequoit is set to receive a significant upgrade in emergency preparedness thanks to a substantial $16.8 million grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The funding will be directed towards the acquisition and installation of three emergency generators, along with necessary switches, transformers, and switchgear. These enhancements will ensure that the facility maintains uninterrupted operations during power outages, safeguarding the critical processes of the water treatment plant.

The announcement was made on Monday afternoon by Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, who was joined by Congressman Joe Morelle.

Bello emphasized the importance of the grant, stating, “The generators are a vital component of our infrastructure planning. With this grant, the Van Lare facility will benefit from a reliable secondary power source.”

This grant marks the largest federal funding allocation to Monroe County since the Pure Waters Tunnel Project of the 1970s, underscoring the significance of this investment in the county’s infrastructure resilience.
