TUAL Unveils Swappable Powerbank for Electric Heavy Goods Vehicles

TUAL, a leading provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions based in Glasgow, Scotland, has launched an innovative swappable powerbank designed to address the limitations of public charging infrastructure for electric heavy goods vehicles (eHGVs).

The company’s new 120 kWh and 180 kWh powerbank solutions aim to overcome the current constraints of public megawatt charging networks, which are often insufficient for the needs of eHGVs. According to TUAL, their swappable powerbanks can extend an eHGV’s range by up to 120 miles, depending on the specific application, and are designed to maximize vehicle uptime and route flexibility.

Developed in partnership with some of Europe’s largest fleet operators, TUAL’s powerbanks are modular and scalable, allowing for seamless integration into existing eHGV platforms. This innovation addresses the challenge of operating heavy-duty electric trucks within the UK’s underdeveloped megawatt charging infrastructure.

Philip Clarke, CEO and founder of TUAL, emphasized the importance of this new technology: “The transition to electric heavy goods vehicles is crucial for meeting our environmental goals, but limited range due to inadequate charging infrastructure poses a significant obstacle. Our swappable powerbanks bridge this gap, offering a flexible and reliable solution that keeps eHGV fleets operational. This technology is ready for immediate deployment, presenting a practical alternative to the long-awaited public megawatt charging network.”

TUAL’s powerbanks can be swapped out in under five minutes, enabling vehicles to remain on the road for longer periods. This feature allows fleets to operate independently of existing grid limitations, enhancing their range and operational efficiency.

The modular design of TUAL’s powerbank allows it to be customized for various fleet sizes and operational needs, including both electric light commercial vehicles (eLCVs) and eHGVs. TUAL had previously introduced a similar powerbank solution for eLCVs in April, marking a significant step in their commitment to advancing electric vehicle infrastructure.
