Envision Energy, a leading Chinese green technology firm, has unveiled plans to develop Europe’s first green hydrogen industrial park in Spain. This ambitious project, highlighted during a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing during Spain’s Prime Minister’s recent visit to China, will see an initial investment of $1 billion.

The proposed industrial park aims to be a cornerstone in advancing Spain’s green hydrogen infrastructure. It will focus on the design, research, manufacturing, and servicing of green hydrogen technologies, playing a crucial role in Spain’s efforts to adopt green hydrogen, especially in sectors that are challenging to decarbonize. This initiative aligns with Spain’s broader goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and accelerating the transition to sustainable energy sources.

Envision Energy plans to establish a state-of-the-art Green Hydrogen Centre of Excellence within the park. This center will serve as a key hub for developing local skills, fostering innovation, and facilitating industrial partnerships throughout Spain.

“With its abundant resources, expansive market, and expertise, Spain is poised to become a European leader in green hydrogen. We are thrilled to collaborate with our net zero technology partners to help secure Spain’s green energy future,” said Lei Zhang, Founder and Chairman of Envision Energy.

The new facility, for which the exact location is still under review, will manufacture high-capacity proton exchange membrane electrolysers, low and high-pressure alkaline electrolysers, and modular equipment such as air separation units for producing green hydrogen and green ammonia. Spain aims to achieve 11 gigawatts (GW) of electrolyser capacity by 2030.

Construction is slated to begin in the first half of 2026, with the project expected to generate approximately 1,000 new green jobs.

Envision Energy, known for its commitment to net zero technologies, positions itself as a unique player in the field, providing an integrated hydrogen value chain within its net zero industrial park model. The company’s first such park is currently under construction in Ordos, Inner Mongolia. Envision has also partnered with Bureau Veritas to introduce the first net zero industrial park certification standard, ensuring the parks meet stringent sustainability criteria.
