ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Solutions division has secured a significant agreement to supply Ford Trucks with electric motors for its forthcoming range of electrified vehicles. This collaboration highlights ZF’s strong presence in the European market for electric commercial drives.

“We are excited to welcome Ford Trucks as a major international customer for our new e-mobility drive platform,” stated Prof. Dr. Peter Laier, a member of the ZF Board of Management overseeing the Commercial Vehicle Solutions division.

The partnership will commence with the delivery of the CeTrax 2 dual electric central drive for Ford Trucks’ heavy-duty Electric Rigid model, which made its global debut at the IAA Transportation 2024 trade fair in Hanover, Germany. As production ramps up, ZF will provide additional electric drive variants to support more models.

The CeTrax 2 series boasts a compact and modular design, allowing it to fit within the same space as a traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) transmission. This flexibility enables manufacturers to install either a combustion engine or electric drivetrain on the same production line, a crucial advantage as the electrified vehicle market evolves.

Additionally, ZF will equip the Electric Rigid with an electrically powered hydraulic steering pump. This innovative system utilizes an e-motor to deliver hydraulic flow on demand, in contrast to conventional systems that maintain continuous pressure, thereby enhancing overall energy efficiency across the vehicle.

Emrah Duman, Ford Trucks’ Vice President, commented, “Ford Trucks has always led innovation in the heavy commercial vehicle sector, and this agreement with ZF reinforces our commitment to advancing sustainable transport solutions.”
