GE Vernova has secured a contract with Italian wind developer IVPC Group to upgrade five wind turbines at the Montefalcone wind farm. This initiative marks a significant step in enhancing the facility’s operational efficiency and energy output.
Under the agreement, GE Vernova will supply five units of its cutting-edge 6.1 MW–158m onshore wind turbines. The repowering process entails replacing outdated turbines with advanced, higher-capacity models or retrofitting existing units with improved components. This approach not only boosts energy production but also extends the lifespan of the wind farm.
IVPC Group will spearhead the maintenance efforts, with GE Vernova providing essential engineering support. Deliveries of the new turbines are slated to commence in early 2025, with the project expected to reach completion by the end of the year.
Gilan Sabatier, Chief Commercial Officer for GE Vernova’s Onshore Wind division in International Markets, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. “GE Vernova is proud to partner with IVPC Group, a leader in wind energy in Italy. Implementing our latest and most powerful onshore wind turbine will significantly enhance the wind farm’s energy output, contributing to more affordable and sustainable renewable energy in the country,” Sabatier stated.
With approximately 56,000 turbines and nearly 120 GW of installed capacity globally, GE Vernova’s onshore wind business remains a prominent player in the renewable energy sector. Notably, its Cypress platform is recognized as the most widely deployed onshore wind turbine above 5 MW outside China, underscoring the company’s commitment to advancing clean energy solutions.
