Himoinsa has officially launched its new HGY Series generator sets during a high-profile event at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid, the home stadium of Atlético Madrid.
Designed specifically for “mission-critical” applications, the HGY Series generators are ideal for environments such as hospitals and data centers, and they are built to endure harsh conditions like those found on mining sites. Notably, data centers represent a significant market for these generators, with global demand expected to surge by 12.5%, outpacing growth in other sectors.
The development of the HGY Series has spanned a decade and cost an estimated $100 million. Francisco Gracia, CEO and President of Himoinsa, explained the motivation behind the series, stating, “We saw the market opportunity and developed the capability to fill that niche. This is the culmination of that project. With this new solution, we will enter new markets where we were not present before.”
To support the production of the HGY Series, Himoinsa is constructing a new 17,000 square meter factory in Murcia, Spain, where the company is headquartered. This facility, expected to open in November 2025, aims for an annual output of around 1,000 generator units.
The HGY Series will feature the new GY engines, developed exclusively for Himoinsa by Yanmar. The initial launch will include an electronically-controlled 12-cylinder model, with plans for a 16-cylinder variant to follow in two years, and a 20-cylinder system thereafter. Power outputs for the HGY Series will range from 1,250 to 3,500 kVA, with a goal to reach 4,000 kVA in future models.
Equipped with exhaust aftertreatment systems, these generators meet European emissions regulations for units operating between 300 and 500 hours annually, and there is also an EPA Tier 2 variant available for the U.S. market. The generators will feature multifuel engines, allowing Himoinsa to offer both diesel and gas variants, with a hydrogen version anticipated by 2030. The 12-cylinder diesel generator will also support HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil).
Jesus Santos, Power Solutions Director at Himoinsa, emphasized the advanced capabilities of the new generators, stating, “This is a generator set that has been born in 2024. It’s prepared for all market needs, with low fuel consumption and low emissions.” He further reassured customers about reliability, saying, “This generator set has been tested to the extreme.”
Tetsuya Yamamoto, COO and Director at Yanmar, who attended the launch, remarked, “Yanmar has 100 years of experience developing engine technology across various sectors. The HGY Series carries on from our large marine engine capability, offering the reliability needed in critical power segments. I see more opportunities for Yanmar and Himoinsa to collaborate on new innovations.”
