Suzlon Group, a leading Indian wind turbine manufacturer, has announced a significant partnership with JSP Green Wind to supply a 400MW wind energy project in the steel-rich Koppal region of Karnataka, India.
Under this agreement, Suzlon will provide 127 wind turbine generators equipped with hybrid lattice tubular towers, each boasting a rated capacity of 3.15MW. The clean energy generated from this project is intended to power local steel plants located in Chhattisgarh and Odisha, significantly contributing to the region’s decarbonization efforts.
India has emerged as a global leader in steel production, recently surpassing Japan to become the second-largest producer worldwide. Odisha holds the title of the largest steel-producing state in India, with a capacity of 18 million tonnes annually. Major steel plants in the country, including those in Jamshedpur, Burnpur, Durgapur, Rourkela, Bhilai, and Bokaro, are situated in coal and iron ore-rich states such as Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh.

JSP Green Wind, a special-purpose vehicle of Jindal Renewables Power Private Limited, is committed to advancing Jindal’s decarbonization objectives. Bharat Saxena, President of Jindal Renewables, noted, “This collaboration marks the beginning of a new era in sustainable steel production, enabling us to achieve the Group’s net-zero commitment by 2047.”
