Point Lepreau Nuclear Plant Back Online After Eight-Month Shutdown

by sthv

The Point Lepreau nuclear generating station has resumed electricity production for N.B. Power following an eight-month shutdown. However, the full financial impact of the extended outage, which began in early April and concluded last week, is still being calculated.

“N.B. Power continues to assess the financial impact of the extended outage,” said Dominique Couture, spokesperson for the utility, in response to inquiries about the shutdown’s cost and how it will be covered.

What was initially a 98-day planned maintenance shutdown starting on April 6 became a 248-day outage after an unexpected issue was discovered in the station’s generator, further prolonging the downtime.
