GE Vernova Secures First Caribbean Order for H-Class Gas Power Equipment

by sthv

GE Vernova has announced its first order for H-Class natural gas-fired combined cycle power generation equipment in the Caribbean. The equipment will be used for the 470MW San Felipe power station, located in Punta Caucedo, Boca Chica, Dominican Republic. This move aligns with the Dominican Republic’s climate goals and aids in expanding renewable energy by providing dispatchable, reliable power.

The Dominican Republic, a rapidly growing economy in Latin America, has been transitioning its energy mix, shifting from oil-fired generation to natural gas. Currently, natural gas accounts for nearly half of the country’s electricity generation and plays a crucial role in supporting the growth of renewable energy sources.

Natural gas-fired combined cycle plants, which GE Vernova provides, are among the lowest emitting fossil fuel power plants, significantly reducing emissions of CO₂, SOx, NOx, particulate matter, and mercury.

Antonio Ramirez, General Manager of Generadora San Felipe, expressed confidence in GE Vernova’s technology, stating, “Our new plant, powered by GE Vernova’s highly efficient H-Class technology, will help us provide less carbon-intensive, reliable electricity—critical for the country’s productivity and people’s well-being. We have long trusted GE Vernova’s HA [high availability] technology, and this continued partnership supports our decarbonization efforts.”

GE Vernova’s H-Class gas turbines have accumulated over 2.5 million commercial operating hours, making them the fastest-growing fleet in the heavy-duty gas turbine segment. Dave Ross, President of GE Vernova’s Gas Power in the Americas, remarked, “The San Felipe power plant is a highly ambitious project, and we are proud to support its development.”
