Just one week after the successful launch of O-Train Lines 2 and 4, mechanical problems caused delays for passengers on Monday morning. The issues occurred on trains serving the Ottawa airport route, impacting service on both lines.
The first incident took place around 6:35 a.m. when a Line 4 train stopped at South Keys Station. OC Transpo spokesperson Katrina Camposarcone-Stubbs said a technician was sent to address the problem. The train was repaired and returned to service by 7 a.m. However, during the repair, rail service on Lines 2 and 4 was temporarily suspended for about 15 minutes.
The same train experienced another issue around 7:30 a.m. while stopping at South Keys Station again. This time, the train was taken out of service by 8 a.m. Service on both lines was briefly halted and then resumed with diversions until the affected train could be removed. Delays persisted but were gradually resolved as full service was restored later in the morning.
Line 4 operates using Alstom LINT diesel trains, which were previously used on the former eight-kilometre north-south O-Train line. These trains have been in service since 2015.
Lines 2 and 4 officially launched on January 6 and had operated without major issues during their first week. Currently, the trains do not run on weekends. The soft launch plan includes a minimum of two weeks of five-day service before Saturday service is added. After that, another two weeks of six-day service will be required before Sunday operations begin. It is unclear whether Monday’s delays will affect this schedule or extend the period of five-day service.
