The International Copper Association of India (ICA India) emphasized copper’s critical role in shaping the future of mobility at the India Mobility Global Expo 2025. Held from January 17 to 22 at Bharat Mandapam, the event featured ICA India’s exhibition under the theme “Copper Everywhere,” spotlighting the metal’s contributions to sustainable innovation and modern life.
The exhibition highlighted copper’s extensive use in electric vehicles (EVs), including batteries, motors, and charging infrastructure. It also showcased copper’s versatility through displays of everyday items made from the material. Additionally, the booth underscored copper’s role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by enabling clean energy solutions like solar panels, wind turbines, and EVs.
Mayur Karmarkar, Managing Director of ICA India, stated, “Copper makes up only 4% of an electric vehicle’s weight, but it is essential for safety and performance. It is the backbone of modern transportation. Its recyclability ensures that end-of-life scrap can be reused without losing quality, making it a key material for sustainable mobility.”
The exhibition featured interactive displays and live demonstrations, including a mock electric car, to illustrate copper’s applications in EV drivetrains, wiring harnesses, and batteries. The ICA India booth attracted notable visitors, including Shri Nitin Gadkari, India’s Minister of Road Transport and Highways, and several industry leaders.
ICA India’s participation underscored copper’s importance in India’s economic growth and clean energy transition. Known for its unique properties and recyclability, copper is a vital material in sectors like construction, transportation, infrastructure, defense, and healthcare. The exhibition also highlighted copper’s role in advancing technology to create a safer, greener, and more connected world.
Abhishek Mohla, President & CSMO of Hindalco (Copper Division), commented, “Hindalco is well-prepared to meet the rising demand for copper in India’s automotive sector. By collaborating with stakeholders, we aim to drive innovation in EV batteries and charging infrastructure. Our focus is on delivering advanced solutions for both Indian and global markets.”
The Bharat Mobility Global Expo is India’s premier platform for sustainable and innovative mobility solutions, bringing together government officials, industry leaders, and technology providers. ICA India’s participation highlighted copper’s pivotal role in advancing green, energy-efficient transportation systems, particularly in the EV sector.
