Coventry-based Fanuc UK Ltd has expanded its robotics lineup with the launch of the M-950iA/500, a high-capacity industrial robot designed for heavy lifting and handling operations. The new robot promises greater versatility and efficiency, particularly in demanding industrial environments.
The M-950iA/500 features a serial-link configuration, which eliminates interference between its J2 and J3 arms by removing the need for a supporting mechanism. This design allows for a wider motion range, with the J3 axis capable of rotating 395 degrees. The robot can handle payloads of up to 500kg, has a reach of 2,830mm, and is equipped with a robust three-axis wrist that delivers high torque and inertia.
These features make the M-950iA/500 ideal for the automotive sector, where it can manage tasks such as handling large engine blocks, electric vehicle (EV) batteries, and car body panels. It is also well-suited for friction stir welding, drilling, and riveting applications.
One of the robot’s standout features is its J3 arm, which can rotate backward and stand above the robot itself. This provides a 75% greater rotation range compared to the older M-900iB/360 model, which only offers 224 degrees of rotation. As a result, the M-950iA/500 can operate in a variety of layouts, making it adaptable to specific customer needs.
The robot also incorporates Fanuc’s iRVision system, a fully integrated visual detection technology, along with other intelligent features. These additions enable seamless transitions between different product lines, enhancing process flexibility.
Powered by Fanuc’s AC servomotor drive system, the M-950iA/500’s three main axes (J1-J3) can move at speeds of up to 100 degrees per second. This makes it a fast and powerful option for heavy part lifting, palletizing, packaging, and material handling tasks. The robot boasts a positioning accuracy of ±0.08mm, with an optional Accuracy and Stiffness Enhancement package available for applications requiring even greater precision or where external forces may affect performance.
The M-950iA/500 is supported by Fanuc’s user-friendly iPendant teaching device and connects to the R-30iB Plus controller. This controller includes FANUC iHMI setup guides for programming and offers ample memory capacity, ensuring ease of use and efficient operation.
With its advanced capabilities and adaptability, the M-950iA/500 is set to become a key player in heavy-duty industrial applications, offering both strength and precision for a wide range of tasks.
