Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a state-owned engineering firm, has secured a major contract to supply and install the steam generator package for Phase-II of the 2×660 MW Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station (TPS) in Purulia, West Bengal.
The contract was awarded by Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) through an international competitive bidding (ICB) process. BHEL, which is already responsible for providing the turbine and generator package for this supercritical project, will now manage the entire boiler installation. This includes designing, manufacturing, supplying, and overseeing the erection, testing, and commissioning of the steam generator island package. The scope of work also covers associated civil, electrical, and structural works, along with equipment to enhance emission control.
This latest contract further strengthens BHEL’s long-standing partnership with DVC. BHEL has already installed over 75% of DVC’s coal-based power generation capacity across India. Earlier this year, the company also won an ICB contract for the 2×800 MW Koderma supercritical thermal power project.
With a total installed utility power capacity exceeding 170,000 MW across India, BHEL continues to be a key player in the country’s energy sector. The company plays a crucial role in supporting India’s energy security and self-reliance objectives.
Founded in 1964, BHEL is one of India’s leading engineering and manufacturing companies. Specializing in power generation, transmission, and industrial equipment, the company has been instrumental in shaping the nation’s infrastructure, particularly in the energy sector.
