Boeing has joined forces with Shift5, a top observability platform for onboard operational technology, to help aviation operators meet cybersecurity requirements more easily. The partnership will automate key parts of the Aircraft Network Security Program (ANSP), reducing manual work for maintenance and security teams while improving fleet safety and efficiency.
Aviation regulators like the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) require operators of connected or “e-enabled” aircraft to have an ANSP in place. This ensures network security and compliance with regulations. Boeing and Shift5’s new solution aims to simplify compliance with FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 119-1 and EASA regulations (EU 2017/373) by automating the process.
How It Works
Shift5’s ANSP Compliance Module will integrate with Boeing’s Aviation Business Solutions. This allows operators to automatically capture, analyze, and report issues in aircraft network security logs. The system can run continuous or scheduled checks to spot potential cyber threats. It uses advanced machine learning models, aligned with the MITRE ATT&CK™ Framework, to improve security monitoring.
The solution also makes it easier to create compliance reports and share insights with existing systems. Operators can keep security logs for audits, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements while reducing the workload for their teams.
Why It Matters
Josh Lospinoso, CEO and co-founder of Shift5, said, “Modern aircraft are more connected than ever, but this also brings cybersecurity challenges. ANSP compliance has been a time-consuming process, but with Boeing, we’re turning it into an automated solution. This will save airlines time, effort, and resources as they adapt to new rules.”
Brett Burgess, Boeing’s Commercial Aviation Director for Digital Aviation Solutions, added, “Aviation’s digital transformation needs strong security measures. Working with Shift5 helps operators stay efficient while meeting global cybersecurity standards. This partnership reflects Boeing’s commitment to keeping aviation safe and secure.”
Proactive Threat Detection
For aircraft with onboard network systems, ANSP compliance requires constant monitoring of security logs. Boeing’s new cybersecurity analytics service, powered by Shift5, will help airlines detect issues early—whether caused by human error or cyber threats. This allows operators to prioritize critical incidents and take action quickly.
