Waaree Group, India’s largest solar PV module manufacturer, has officially begun operations at its new Alkaline Electrolyser Manufacturing Facility in Valsad, Gujarat. The facility will start with an initial production capacity of 300 MW in its first phase, positioning Waaree as a significant player in India’s clean energy sector.
This new venture into alkaline electrolyser manufacturing supports India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to help key industries like steel, refining, transportation, fertilizers, chemicals, food, and power generation reduce their carbon emissions. By producing high-efficiency electrolysers locally, Waaree plans to cut down India’s reliance on imports and strengthen the country’s role as a global leader in green hydrogen, as well as its derivatives, including green ammonia and e-fuels.
Anuj Sharma, CEO of Waaree Clean Energy Solutions Pvt. Ltd., said, “The launch of this Electrolyser Manufacturing Facility is a major step towards making India self-reliant in green hydrogen production technologies. Waaree is committed to supporting the nation’s clean energy goals by enabling industries, creating jobs, and contributing to a sustainable future.”
The facility will use advanced automated assembly lines to produce electrolyser stacks, ensuring high precision, scalability, and efficiency. These electrolysers are designed for low energy consumption, durability, and minimal maintenance, making them ideal for large-scale green hydrogen production.
Waaree has also secured Production Linked Incentive (PLI) benefits for its 300 MW electrolyser manufacturing capacity and 90,000 MT per year of green hydrogen production under the government’s SIGHT (Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition) scheme. This financial support highlights Waaree’s commitment to enhancing India’s green hydrogen sector, reducing import dependence, and promoting local manufacturing of crucial clean energy technologies.
