Japanese Electronics Giant Murata to Set Up Manufacturing Unit in Tamil Nadu

by sthv

In a major boost to Tamil Nadu’s electronics industry, Japanese electronics component leader Murata Manufacturing Company has announced plans to establish a manufacturing unit at the OneHub Chennai Industrial Park. The facility will produce multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), a critical component used in a wide range of electronic devices. State Industries Minister TRB Rajaa confirmed the development on Wednesday, calling it a significant milestone for the state’s growing electronics sector.

Murata’s MLCCs are renowned globally for their advanced technology and are integral to products such as Apple and Samsung smartphones, Nvidia servers, and Sony gaming consoles. The company’s components have even played a role in NASA’s Mars helicopter project. “This investment is a key step in our mission to increase electronics exports tenfold to $100 billion, and we are already seeing positive outcomes,” Rajaa said.

The decision follows remarks by Murata President Norio Nakajima, who earlier hinted at the company’s interest in expanding its presence in India. Currently, nearly 60% of Murata’s MLCC production is based in Japan. Tamil Nadu has been in talks with the company for over a year, and after several rounds of discussions, production has now begun in the state.
