Siemens AG is expanding its manufacturing capacity in India to support the country’s Make in India initiative. The move aims to meet growing demand for energy and rail solutions both domestically and internationally, according to Matthias Rebellius, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO of Smart Infrastructure. Rebellius made the announcement at the Elecrama 2025 event in Greater Noida, highlighting the company’s focus on power generation, transmission, distribution, and rail transportation.
Since 2015, Siemens has invested more than Rs 9,000 crore in India. In November 2023, the company pledged an additional Rs 1,100 crore, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the country. “We are expanding our manufacturing capabilities under the Make in India program to meet the rising demand for energy and rail solutions in India and globally,” Rebellius said.
Siemens currently employs over 34,000 people in India and operates 32 factories. The company is aligning its efforts with India’s economic goals and its growing reputation as a global innovation hub. Rebellius pointed to significant opportunities in India, particularly in digitalization, which is expected to improve energy efficiency, grid management, and manufacturing capabilities. India is also modernizing its power systems to address increasing energy needs and promote clean energy.
Rebellius added that infrastructure ministries are being encouraged to develop a three-year pipeline of projects, with public-private partnerships playing a key role in financing. “Siemens is a trusted partner in supporting investments and the Indian government’s vision for Viksit Bharat 2047,” he said. The company’s portfolio includes locally developed solutions for low-voltage power distribution, which are critical to India’s electrification efforts and are also exported worldwide.
