The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has joined forces with Brandworks Technologies Pvt Ltd to advance lithium-ion battery technology. The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marks a significant step toward making India a global hub for high-tech electronics manufacturing.
This collaboration will focus on enhancing lithium-ion battery technology, a critical component for powering consumer electronics, electric vehicles, power plants, and data centers. With Brandworks’ expertise in research and development and its manufacturing capabilities, the goal is to create cost-effective, high-performance batteries for both domestic and international markets. This initiative aligns with the Indian government’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” programs, which aim to boost self-reliance and technological independence.
Key Areas of Focus
Under the MoU, MeitY and Brandworks will work together to improve key aspects of lithium-ion technology. These include increasing energy density, shortening charging times, and extending battery lifespans. The companies will also focus on scalable production through innovative design methods. Moreover, the partnership aims to reduce reliance on imports by localizing supply chains, collaborating with domestic suppliers, and promoting eco-friendly manufacturing practices to lower carbon emissions.
Skill Development and Workforce Training
A major aspect of the collaboration is skill development. By 2030, Brandworks and MeitY plan to train over 500 technicians in advanced battery assembly, agile production methods, and quality control. This training will help create a skilled workforce to meet the growing demand for high-performance batteries and ensure the long-term success of the manufacturing processes.
Brandworks’ Track Record
Brandworks Technologies, which began as a power bank assembly unit in 2017, has rapidly grown into a leader in efficient lithium-ion solutions. The company has achieved 101% year-on-year revenue growth and has invested heavily in AI-driven automation. Brandworks is set to play a key role in India’s next-generation battery innovations.
Operating from a 210,000 sq. ft. facility in Mumbai, Brandworks runs 45 production lines and produces over 500,000 units each month. The company’s product range includes consumer electronics, wearable technology, IoT devices, and mobile accessories, making it a preferred OEM/ODM partner for both Indian and global brands.
Advanced Manufacturing Techniques
Brandworks utilizes cutting-edge tools like SAP and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) for enhanced traceability and operational efficiency. Its Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) techniques optimize product designs, reducing material waste and cutting production costs by 20%. The company’s team of over 30 engineers specializes in IoT, AI-driven surveillance, and protocol-based devices, enabling rapid prototyping and faster production cycles. In addition, its proprietary supply chain tool reduces sourcing time by 30%, while partnerships with over 50 Independent Design Houses (IDHs) help create customized, cost-efficient solutions.
Commitment to Social Responsibility
Brandworks is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. With over 1,200 employees, the company boasts that 70% are women, many of whom hold supervisory and managerial roles. The company’s focus on local supply chains and skill development ensures compliance with global standards, further strengthening India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
Statements from Leadership
Nikita Kumawat, Managing Director of Brandworks, emphasized, “This collaboration with MeitY reflects our commitment to driving innovation.
