Pralhad Joshi, the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, recently inaugurated India’s first AI-driven solar manufacturing line at Goldi Solar’s new plant in Kosamba, Surat, Gujarat. This cutting-edge facility is set to revolutionize solar manufacturing by enhancing precision, scalability, and efficiency. According to the company, it will play a crucial role in India’s progress towards a net-zero future.
The new plant boasts a production capacity of 14 GW and features several innovative technologies, including AI-powered high-speed stringers that can produce 10,000 cells per hour. This automation ensures high consistency, reduces errors, and cuts down on material waste. Additionally, the facility is equipped with AI-based Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems that use computer vision to detect and remove defects at a microscopic level, ensuring top-quality control.
The facility also includes an advanced pre-lamination section with an automated EVA laying robot that optimizes the placement of encapsulation layers with minimal human involvement. This process reduces inconsistencies that are common with manual methods. Moreover, AI-powered 3-Display EL and visual inspection systems are installed to ensure only the highest quality solar modules are produced, enhancing their reliability and durability.
Minister Pralhad Joshi praised Goldi Solar’s role in supporting India’s clean energy goals. “It’s inspiring to see Indian companies leading the global clean energy transformation, in line with PM Modi’s ‘Make in India’ vision. Goldi Solar’s AI innovations and 14 GW capacity are strengthening India’s renewable energy future,” he said during his visit.
Ishver Dholakiya, Founder and Managing Director of Goldi Solar, expressed the company’s pride in being the first Indian solar manufacturer to integrate AI into its production process. “AI is transforming production quality. Both ‘Made in India’ and ‘Make in India’ will benefit, boosting exports and improving production standards. Our 14 GW facility represents our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and a net-zero future for India,” Dholakiya said.
Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Surat, Gujarat, Goldi Solar operates three plants in Gujarat—Pipodara, Navsari, and Kosamba—targeting a combined production capacity of 14 GW. The company manufactures advanced photovoltaic modules and provides Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services, exporting to over 20 countries worldwide.
