GE Vernova Inc. has announced that its turbines have started operations at the Pulau Indah power plant in Selangor, Malaysia, located about 60 kilometers from the capital, Kuala Lumpur.
The new power plant, which has a capacity of 1,200 megawatts (MW), is powered by two blocks of combined cycle equipment. It is expected to generate enough electricity to power around 2.5 million homes. Under the terms of a 21-year agreement, GE Vernova will provide ongoing maintenance services and software solutions to enhance the plant’s asset visibility, reliability, and availability.
The plant’s core is powered by two 9HA gas turbines, designed for flexibility with high ramp rates and quick start-up times to meet changing demand. Additionally, the 9HA turbines can burn up to 50% hydrogen when blended with natural gas.
For the Pulau Indah project, GE Vernova supplied two 600 MW blocks, each containing a 9HA.01 gas turbine, an STF-D650 steam turbine, a W88 generator, and a Once Through Heat Recovery Steam Generator (OT HRSG).
