The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored electricity nationwide following a recent system disturbance that led to a significant drop in power generation. The incident, described by TCN as a partial grid disturbance caused by the unexpected tripping of three units at a power generating station, resulted in the loss of 313 megawatts from the grid. This disruption, which occurred around 15:09 hours on Saturday, July 6, 2024, prompted TCN’s System Operator to take immediate action to stabilize the system.

According to TCN’s statement signed by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs, the System Operator isolated a section of the grid to manage the situation, ensuring continuous power supply to areas including Uyo, Aba, Itu, Eket, and Calabar. The restoration efforts commenced promptly, and by 21:57 hours on the same day, TCN successfully restored power to all affected parts of the grid.

This incident marks the third partial grid disturbance of the year, with one total grid collapse previously reported. TCN clarified that despite reports, the recent event did not constitute a complete grid collapse, emphasizing ongoing efforts to enhance grid reliability and stability.

The restoration of nationwide electricity underscores TCN’s commitment to managing and swiftly resolving grid challenges, ensuring minimal disruption to the country’s power supply.
