Ionetic Appoints New Chief Technology Officer to Drive Innovation in EV Battery Pack Technology

by sthv

Ionetic, a leading company in software-accelerated electric vehicle (EV) battery pack technology, has appointed Steve Boulter as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). With a wealth of experience in battery pack technology, Boulter will spearhead Ionetic’s technology strategy. He will oversee the rollout of the company’s innovative Arc technology stack, which is designed to significantly reduce costs, risks, and time to market for niche vehicle manufacturers.

This appointment comes at a pivotal time for Ionetic, following the recent launch of its Arc Fab Pilot facility. This facility marks a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to transform battery pack production.

A Vision for the Future of EV Battery Development

Boulter emphasized the importance of battery packs in the competitiveness of electric vehicles. “The battery pack in an EV is intrinsically linked to the competitiveness of the product. OEMs today face a dilemma — invest huge sums of money in bespoke solutions or choose an ‘off-the-shelf’ battery that is not optimized for their needs,” Boulter explained. He added, “Ionetic is changing this. Our Arc technology stack, which combines software, hardware, and fabrication, will enable our customers to deliver electrified products at a fraction of the investment usually required for custom battery designs.”

Arc, Ionetic’s flagship technology, combines AI-driven software, adaptable hardware, and flexible fabrication to significantly reduce the time and costs involved in developing custom battery packs. It is specifically designed for low-volume original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) producing under 10,000 units per year. The technology allows for multiple custom battery packs to be produced on a single production line, cuts commissioning time by up to two-thirds, and offers multi-million-dollar savings in development costs.

A Strong Addition to the Team

James Eaton, CEO and co-founder of Ionetic, highlighted the value of Boulter’s appointment. “Our vision has always been to make electrification possible and compelling for all OEMs. Achieving this requires a new approach to developing custom battery packs, and this is exactly what Ionetic is doing. Steve’s expertise and experience are a huge addition to our team, and his appointment is a strong endorsement of the progress we’ve made so far.”

Before joining Ionetic, Boulter served as the Vice President of Product Engineering at Agratas. He also spent 16 years at Jaguar Land Rover, where he led vehicle engineering for the company’s first all-electric vehicle, the I-PACE. Later, he became Head of Advanced Battery Development at Jaguar Land Rover.

As Ionetic’s new CTO, Boulter will work closely with the leadership team, which includes Eaton, co-founder Dr. Monica Marinescu, Chairman Andy Palmer — former CEO of Aston Martin and COO of Nissan — and Chief Manufacturing Officer Stephen Large, who helped establish Jaguar Land Rover’s £250 million battery manufacturing facility.
