GMR to Acquire Up to 15 Airbus H140 Helicopters for EMS

by sthv

Global Medical Response (GMR) has signed a deal with Airbus Helicopters to purchase up to 15 H140 helicopters for its emergency medical services (EMS) operations. GMR is one of the first companies to order the newly unveiled H140, which was introduced last week at VERTICON, a vertical lift industry event in Dallas, Texas.

GMR, a leader in air medical services, has placed an order for 10 H140 helicopters, with an option to purchase five more. Based in Lewisville, Texas, GMR is one of the largest operators of Airbus helicopters in North America.

Raising Standards in Helicopter Design

Airbus claims that the H140 sets a new standard in the light twin-engine helicopter category, offering improved performance, cost-efficiency, and comfort for both passengers and crew. The 3-tonne helicopter is designed to meet the needs of EMS, passenger transport, and private and business aviation markets. It is scheduled to enter service in 2028 for EMS operations.

The H140 features several innovative design elements, including a new T-shaped tail boom with an optimized Fenestron, which reduces noise levels. It also comes with a five-blade bearingless main rotor and powerful Safran engines. The cabin is more spacious, with large windows and an optimized layout, allowing room for up to six passengers. Its large clamshell doors and high tail boom ensure easy access for various stretcher systems, including intensive care and transport incubators.

GMR’s order follows a previous purchase of 28 Airbus helicopters announced in November 2024. With this new acquisition, GMR will expand its fleet to nearly 200 Airbus helicopters. The company, employing nearly 35,000 people, is a leader in the air medical industry, providing high-quality medical care across the U.S. and globally. GMR operates 380 air base locations under brands like Air Evac Lifeteam, REACH Air Medical Services, Med-Trans Corporation, AirMed International, and Guardian Flight. Since 2021, over 30 Airbus helicopters have joined GMR’s fleet.
