Coventry-based Lawton Tubes, a prominent manufacturer and supplier of copper tubing products, is investing £20 million in a new facility just a short distance from its current headquarters on Torrington Avenue. The company plans to build a 120,000 square foot, two-storey building to house manufacturing, storage, and office operations. The expansion is expected to be completed within three years.
Giles Lawton, managing director of operations at Lawton Tubes, described the move as a major milestone for the family-owned business, which continues to grow rapidly. With an annual turnover of £230 million and a workforce of 140 employees across four sites in Coventry, Redditch, and Poole, the company is focused on future growth that benefits both its employees and customers.
“We are pleased to announce the successful purchase of the former Sandvik site on Torrington Avenue. This was made possible through Peter Holt of Holt Commercial, Coventry,” said Lawton. “Our goal is to turn the entire five-acre site into a state-of-the-art distribution centre and a new head office for Lawton Tubes. We’ll be working again with Fusion Building Consultancy to complete the redevelopment within the next 30 to 36 months.”
A Legacy of Success
Lawton Tubes has long been a success story for the region. The company exports its products to over 40 countries worldwide and has earned the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise, recognizing its achievements in international trade. Its copper tubing is used in a range of critical industries, including healthcare, construction, and major sporting venues.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Lawton Tubes played an essential role by supplying copper tubing to the Nightingale hospitals, underscoring the company’s dedication to supporting communities during times of crisis.
Looking to the Future
Robert Lawton, director of marketing and international sales, and a fourth-generation member of the family business founded in 1918, emphasized the importance of the investment. “With global demand rising and strong sales growth in new markets, now is the perfect time to invest in our future,” he said.
The demand for copper continues to grow due to its sustainability and natural antimicrobial properties. “Copper can be endlessly recycled, which has increased its demand across all our sectors. This expansion is not just about our business growth but also about strengthening our connection with the local community,” Robert Lawton added.
The new facility marks an exciting phase in Lawton Tubes’ ongoing expansion and will help support the company’s next chapter of growth.
