Union Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Shri Shripad Naik, visited the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam and inaugurated its 1MW Solar Park for Phase-II. This solar initiative underscores the importance of sustainable infrastructure within the medical technology sector, supporting India’s wider push to integrate renewable energy into key industries and lower the carbon footprint of medical device production.
During his visit, the Minister also explored AMTZ’s innovative Solar-Powered Tricycle. This mobility solution aims to assist people with disabilities, combining clean energy with advanced assistive technology. It highlights AMTZ’s commitment to promoting inclusive healthcare while prioritizing environmental sustainability.
The event also featured the signing of multiple strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between AMTZ and top institutions. These agreements are expected to enhance research, development, and production capabilities in the MedTech sector, further establishing India as a leader in global healthcare innovation.
In his speech, Minister Shripad Naik commended AMTZ for its contributions, saying, “AMTZ is a leading example of India’s healthcare technology capabilities. Under Dr. Jitendra Sharma’s leadership, AMTZ has played a vital role in reducing India’s reliance on imports and boosting local innovation, ensuring self-reliance in the MedTech industry.”

Dr. Jitendra Sharma, in his address, shared AMTZ’s long-term sustainability goals. He stated, “With projects like the solar-powered tricycle and Solar Park, we are setting new benchmarks in renewable energy adoption in the MedTech sector. Our goal is to achieve 100% energy neutrality within the next decade, track carbon footprints, and encourage employees to cut emissions.”
