Senvion India, a leading supplier of wind turbines, has reached an important milestone by installing over 1 GW of wind turbine capacity in India. This achievement highlights the company’s strong dedication to the country’s growing wind energy sector. Along with this significant milestone, Senvion India has also manufactured 500 nacelles at its Baramati plant in Maharashtra and produced 500 sets of blades at its facilities in Vadodara, Gujarat, and Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu.
In line with the Make in India initiative, Senvion has localized much of its manufacturing and operations in India. The company has achieved more than 80% localization at the sub-component level, with a long-term goal of producing all its turbines locally. Senvion’s presence in India has also supported job creation and strengthened domestic manufacturing capabilities, advancing India’s aim to become a global hub for wind turbine production.
Amit Kansal, CEO and Managing Director of Senvion India, commented, “Reaching 1 GW of commissioned capacity is a major milestone, and we thank our customers for their support. Over 95% of this capacity is under our comprehensive maintenance program. While we celebrate this achievement, we are already working on commissioning the next 1 GW, with firm orders to complete it in the next year. Our commitment to the Indian wind market is strong, and we look forward to launching our next-generation 4.2 MW turbine soon.”
Looking forward, Senvion India plans to secure 15% of the market share in grid-connected wind turbine installations in the next financial year. The company’s growing role in the industry, combined with its focus on innovation and local manufacturing, is poised to support India’s renewable energy goals, including the government’s target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
Since its arrival in India in 2016, Senvion India has become a key player in the wind energy sector. The company operates a world-class R&D facility and employs over 1,200 people across its value chain in India. Through its work in developing and installing wind energy projects, and by using advanced technologies like its 120- and 130-meter rotor turbines, Senvion India is playing a significant role in India’s transition to clean, sustainable energy. The company is committed to helping create a greener future for future generations.
