Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) officially opened its new plant today, marking a significant achievement in the company’s expansion in the U.S. Located in Bryan County, Georgia, this facility is the largest economic development project in the state, completed just two and a half years after construction began. It is Hyundai’s third manufacturing plant in the U.S., joining the existing plants in Alabama and Georgia operated by Hyundai and Kia.

Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group, said, “Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America highlights our advanced manufacturing capabilities and deep commitment to local communities in Georgia. With a skilled workforce and a legacy of craftsmanship, we are helping shape the future of mobility in America.”

Designed to focus on electric and hybrid vehicles, HMGMA will produce vehicles for Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia. Initially, the plant has a capacity to produce 300,000 vehicles annually. Hyundai’s total investment in Georgia, which includes the HMGMA facility and joint ventures with LG Energy Solution and SK On for battery production, amounts to $12.6 billion. This is the largest investment ever made in Georgia and is expected to create 8,500 jobs at HMGMA by 2031. Overall, the company’s investments in Georgia are expected to generate nearly 40,000 jobs and have an annual economic impact of $4.6 billion, according to the Center for Automotive Research.

Hyundai has invested over $20.5 billion in the U.S. and plans to invest another $21 billion between 2025 and 2028. This new investment will increase the company’s U.S. production capacity to 1.2 million vehicles per year. As part of this growth, HMGMA’s annual production capacity will be raised to 500,000 units, up from the original target of 300,000. Hyundai’s other U.S. plants in Alabama and Georgia will also be upgraded to support this growth.
