Lungmetall OHG, a well-established German manufacturer specializing in sheet metal and machining technology, has been evolving its operations since Marcus Lung took over as managing director in 1997. Under his leadership, the company adopted advanced manufacturing techniques such as water-jet and laser cutting. Lungmetall also expanded its market reach into industries like aerospace, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, and motorsport.
Despite this growth, Lungmetall faced challenges in its production planning and data management. The reliance on multiple Excel spreadsheets for pricing led to inconsistencies in quotes, while procurement was based on estimates rather than real-time data, resulting in incorrect material orders and unnecessary costs. On the shop floor, outdated manual processes created additional problems. Every morning, large volumes of printed work orders were distributed to employees, making it difficult to track progress in real-time.
Recognizing the need for a more efficient, data-driven approach, Lungmetall partnered with Lantek, a company that provides advanced software solutions for manufacturing. Lantek implemented several software systems to improve the company’s operations. Initially, Lantek introduced Lantek Expert, a 2D CAD/CAM programming tool, and Lantek Flex 3D for 3D cutting processes. Later, Lungmetall adopted Lantek Integra for enterprise management and Lantek MES for production control and warehouse management, creating a seamless, integrated production process.
The software solutions brought immediate benefits to Lungmetall. Automated pricing calculations eliminated inconsistencies, ensuring more accurate quotes. The automated nesting feature for laser cutting significantly improved sales leads and profitability. The transition to digital workflows also improved access to work orders for employees, leading to smoother, more organized operations.
Lungmetall is now preparing to implement Lantek Analytics, a cloud-based tool aimed at further optimizing processes and improving customer relationship management. By leveraging advanced data analytics, the company plans to refine its decision-making and strengthen its competitive edge.
Christoph Lenhard, Commercial Director at Lantek Germany, emphasized the flexibility of Lantek’s solutions. “Lantek’s strength lies in its adaptability and independence from specific machine manufacturers. This aligns perfectly with Lungmetall’s need for freedom in choosing machinery. For Lungmetall, partnering with Lantek was about more than just software — it was about breaking free from industry limitations.”
