Bharat Forge Limited (BFL), a global leader in metal forging and engineering, has unveiled a state-of-the-art defence manufacturing facility in Jejuri, near Pune. Spanning 300,000 square feet, this new plant is set to play a key role in producing indigenous artillery systems and specialized defence vehicles.
Although the facility is still awaiting final regulatory approvals, it is expected to significantly contribute to India’s defence sector. Strategically located with direct highway access and proximity to key suppliers, the Jejuri plant is also near a skilled workforce. This will support India’s goal of achieving greater self-reliance in defence manufacturing, in line with the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.
Once fully operational, the facility will produce a range of advanced defence systems, reinforcing Bharat Forge’s position as a leader in the sector. The plant is specifically designed to manufacture the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS), a key project for the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD). These 155mm howitzers, developed in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), are expected to enhance India’s artillery capabilities. Bharat Forge has also become a key exporter of such advanced systems to allied nations.
The opening of this facility is a significant step forward for India’s defence manufacturing industry. It will contribute to the country’s strategic autonomy and help establish India as a major global defence exporter. The ATAGS program is a testament to India’s engineering capabilities, and Bharat Forge is committed to advancing the development of artillery and mobility solutions for modern warfare.
