Hindustan Zinc Limited, the world’s leading integrated zinc producer, has announced its highest-ever production figures for the year ending March 31, 2025. The company achieved a new milestone with a record 1,095 kilotonnes (KT) of mined metal and 1,052 KT of refined metal produced, reinforcing its strong market position as the top zinc producer globally.
The company’s performance in FY25 reflects significant operational achievements, with record production in several key areas. Hindustan Zinc’s mined metal output reached 1,095 KT, driven by improved metal grades and recovery rates from its mills. This increase in mined metal production highlights the company’s focus on improving operational efficiency and mining processes.
In addition to record mined metal production, the company also set a new high in refined metal production, reaching 1,052 KT. This achievement was made possible by better plant availability and improved operational performance. Refined zinc production reached 827 KT, a modest 1% growth from the previous year, while lead production increased by 4% to 225 KT, underscoring Hindustan Zinc’s ability to scale up production and maintain high operational standards.
A significant highlight was the performance of Hindustan Zinc Alloys Private Limited, a subsidiary of the company. In FY25, it produced 10 KT of zinc alloys, contributing to the company’s Value-Added Product (VAP) segment. This expansion reflects Hindustan Zinc’s strategy to diversify its product range and strengthen its position in India’s alloy market.
The company also reported its silver production for FY25, which reached 687 metric tonnes of saleable silver. However, this marked an 8% decline compared to the previous year, mainly due to changes in mining sequences and lower silver content from the SK mine. Despite the drop, Hindustan Zinc remains a key player in the silver industry.
In the fourth quarter of FY25, Hindustan Zinc achieved its highest-ever quarterly mined metal production, totaling 310 KT, a 17% increase from the previous quarter. This was driven by improved metal grades and higher production at major mines like Agucha and Zawar. The company also saw a 4% rise in refined metal output, reaching 270 KT. Refined zinc production grew by 5% to 214 KT, while lead production increased by 2%, totaling 56 KT. Silver production in the fourth quarter rose by 10% to 177 metric tonnes, benefiting from increased lead production and efficient Work In Progress (WIP) liquidation.
Additionally, Hindustan Zinc’s wind power generation reached 63 MUs in the fourth quarter, a 33% increase from the previous quarter, thanks to favorable wind conditions. This highlights the company’s commitment to sustainable energy practices.
As a part of the Vedanta Group, Hindustan Zinc is the global leader in zinc production and the third-largest silver producer. The company serves over 40 countries and commands about 75% of India’s primary zinc market share. Hindustan Zinc was also recognized as the most sustainable company in the metals and mining sector for two consecutive years by the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024, showcasing its leadership in operational excellence and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices.
In its efforts towards sustainability, Hindustan Zinc launched EcoZen, Asia’s first low-carbon “green” zinc brand. Produced using renewable energy, EcoZen has a carbon footprint 75% lower than the global average, at less than 1 tonne of carbon equivalent per tonne of zinc.
The company is also a certified water-positive entity with a water positivity ratio of 2.41 times and aims to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.
