The launch event, titled “Powering Tomorrow,” took place at the Dole Farm in Claveria, Misamis Oriental, in collaboration with Dole Philippines Inc., a subsidiary of Dole Asia Pacific owned by ITOCHU, USAID – Energy Secure Philippines (ESP), and Go Gridless. The project features a cutting-edge solar-powered energy storage system utilizing lithium batteries, designed to supplant traditional diesel generators. This innovation aims not only to reduce reliance on fossil fuels but also to enhance the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of cold chain logistics.
Jose Paolo L. Delgado, President and CEO of Delbros Group, highlighted the project’s potential to revolutionize energy usage in logistics: “This solar GenSet project embodies our commitment to sustainability and innovation. By harnessing solar energy, we are setting a new standard for environmental responsibility in logistics, leading the charge not only in the Philippines but also across the region and globally.”
Dr. Matthew Kupchik, Acting Director of USAID Philippines’ Environment Office, emphasized the project’s impact: “This project successfully demonstrates the application of renewable energy-based solutions to displace existing diesel power generators and offset approximately five hundred to seven hundred and fifty thousand pesos worth of fuel every month.”
The event gathered various stakeholders, including representatives from USAID, Go Gridless, Dole Philippines Inc., and local businesses, underscoring their unwavering support for the initiative.
Attendees witnessed firsthand the technical setup of the solar gensets, showcasing their seamless integration with existing refrigerated trailers.
