Accu, a precision engineering company based in Huddersfield, will showcase its innovations and inspire the next generation of engineers at the Makers Central event at the NEC in Birmingham, on May 17 and 18. The company supplies precision components to 50% of the world’s top manufacturers and is now turning its focus to inspiring young talent in the field of engineering.
At the event, Accu will feature live demonstrations of its state-of-the-art combat robots, known as AccuBots. These robots are built using Accu’s precision components and 3D printing technology. Visitors will have the chance to build their own modular combat robot and interact with engineers, learning how precision engineering is driving advances in manufacturing.
In addition to showcasing its own technology, Accu is partnering with Kids Invent Stuff, a channel that turns creative design ideas from children aged 4 to 11 into reality. The Kids Invent Stuff team will visit schools ahead of the event, encouraging students to participate in a competition to design their own robots. Some of these designs will be brought to life by Accu’s engineers, led by Ruth Amos, to be displayed and battled at Makers Central. Last year, the Kids Invent Stuff team attracted over 1,000 families to their stand, where they featured previous inventions and collected new ideas.
Makers Central is a family-friendly event that celebrates creativity, engineering, and innovation. The event draws a global audience of makers, inventors, and hobbyists, with attractions including epic builds, robotics displays, and interactive workshops. Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet popular internet personalities such as Colin Furze, Jimmy Diresta, Nick Zammeti, and Brothers Make.
Alastair Morris, managing director of Accu, expressed his excitement about participating in the event: “We are thrilled to be part of Makers Central this year. It’s a great opportunity to connect with makers from all walks of life, showcase our latest innovations, and inspire young people to explore the vast opportunities in manufacturing and engineering. We’re especially excited to offer visitors a chance to experience our robot fighting activity and demonstrate how precision engineering is key to solving industry challenges.”
Ruth Amos, inventor and director at Kids Invent Stuff, shared her enthusiasm for the collaboration: “It’s been fantastic to see how engaged the kids have been in the invention process, and how excited everyone is about the robot wars theme. We’re thrilled to partner with Accu and can’t wait to showcase our creations at Makers Central.”
