Global leader in fan and motor manufacturing, ebm-papst, is boosting its presence in India with the establishment of a third production unit. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility in Chennai will take place on April 4th, marking a significant step in the company’s growth strategy across the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa (APAC & MEA) regions. India continues to play a vital role in ebm-papst’s expansion, and this new plant will help meet the growing demand in the region.
The new facility, located on a 57,600 m² (14.2-acre) site, will begin with the first phase covering 23,000 m² and an investment of €36 million (INR 340 crore). Scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, the plant will enable the company to offer faster and more flexible services to its local customers, while also providing customized solutions. “This investment is a long-term commitment to India,” said Atul Tripathi, Managing Director of ebm-papst India. “By increasing local production, we aim to meet the rising demand and create sustainable job opportunities. Once operational, the facility will employ around 700 people.”
The new plant will strengthen ebm-papst’s supply chain resilience and is a key part of its “Local for Local” strategy. “Through our glocalization approach, we aim to provide tailored solutions to the APAC & MEA regions,” said Dr. Klaus Geissdoerfer, CEO of ebm-papst Group. “Localization of production ensures we can quickly and efficiently address the needs of our customers in India,” added Thomas Nuernberger, CSO of ebm-papst and CEO of Air Technology for APAC & MEA.
As part of its wider expansion plans in India, ebm-papst also launched a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Chennai in 2023. The 2,800 m² facility will accommodate 300 specialists focused on developing digital solutions for the company’s fan technologies and global processes, supporting its ongoing digital transformation.
