Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) has further solidified its position as a global leader in the automotive semiconductor sector, with microcontrollers playing a significant role in its success. According to a recent market analysis by TechInsights, Infineon captured a 13.5% share of the global automotive semiconductor market in 2024.
In Europe, Infineon moved to the top spot, securing a 14.1% share, up from second place in 2023. The company also improved its position in North America, climbing to second place with a 10.4% share, up from third last year. In the microcontroller market, Infineon increased its share to 32.0%, expanding its lead over the second-largest competitor by 2.7 percentage points.
The company also maintained its leadership in important markets such as China, where it holds a 13.9% share, and South Korea, with 17.7%. In Japan, Infineon continues to hold the second spot, with a 13.2% share. The global automotive semiconductor market was valued at US$ 68.4 billion in 2024, reflecting a slight decline of 1.2% from the previous year.

Infineon’s semiconductors play a key role in making vehicles cleaner, safer, and smarter, supporting the digitalization and decarbonization of the automotive industry. They are essential in various applications, including driver assistance and safety systems, powertrain and battery management, as well as comfort and infotainment features.
A major focus for Infineon is advancing electrical and electronic (E/E) vehicle architectures, which are shifting toward more centralized zonal designs for software-defined vehicles. This transformation requires advanced connectivity, data security, smart power distribution, and real-time processing power.
