Remsons Industries, a veteran in the automotive components industry, has entered the electric vehicle (EV) market by acquiring a majority stake in Astro Motors. The company has purchased 51% of the Pune-based EV manufacturer for ₹14 crore. Of this, ₹10 crore has been paid in cash, while the remaining ₹4 crore will be issued through equity shares on a preferential basis, subject to shareholder approval.
Astro Motors is known for producing geared electric three-wheelers. It operates a manufacturing facility in Chakan, near Pune. The company’s main product, the Astro Navya, is built for cargo transport. It has a payload capacity of 747 kg and a driving range of 131 km per charge, powered by a 10.2 kWh battery. The vehicle is designed to handle challenging terrains and has successfully climbed Umling La Pass in Ladakh, the highest motorable road in the world at 19,024 feet.
Astro Motors is now expanding its dealership network and plans to launch electric passenger vehicles within the next four to six months. The acquisition marks Remsons’ strategic move into the fast-growing electric mobility space. As demand for last-mile delivery grows—driven by the rise of e-commerce and rapid logistics—electric three-wheelers are becoming more critical, especially in cities and semi-urban regions.
With Astro’s existing research and development capabilities and a focused EV product line, the company aims to become one of the top five electric three-wheeler manufacturers in India within three years.
“This investment allows us to tap into a growing segment and supports our long-term strategy to diversify and expand into electric mobility,” said Rahul Kejriwal, Executive Director of Remsons Industries. “The electric three-wheeler category, particularly for cargo and delivery, is expected to grow significantly. We are well-positioned to benefit from this trend.”
