IAE International Aero Engines AG (IAE) has announced that its V2500 engine has surpassed 300 million flight hours in operational service. IAE is a global consortium that includes Pratt & Whitney, a business of RTX, Pratt & Whitney Aero Engines International GmbH, Japanese Aero Engines Corporation, and MTU Aero Engines AG.
The V2500 engine powers around 2,800 aircraft and is used by more than 150 operators worldwide. It supports passenger, cargo, and military missions, and is currently used in the Airbus A320ceo family, including the A321F passenger-to-cargo conversion. It also powers the Embraer C-390 Millennium, a multi-mission military transport aircraft. In 2023, IAE marked 40 years of collaboration and innovation, and in 2024, the V2500 was successfully tested using 100% synthetic aviation fuel (SAF).
Kelly Horan, president of IAE, stated, “The V2500 is a mainstay of the industry, and this latest milestone of 300 million flight hours is evidence of the engine’s legacy of reliability and performance. With an average age of 15 years, the V2500 engine is in the prime of its life — and we continue to offer customized solutions to meet our customers’ needs.”
The engine’s durability was recently showcased when a high-time V2500, removed for service after more than 43,000 flight hours since its first installation in April 2013, proved its robustness and longevity.
Pratt & Whitney and IAE offer a variety of enhanced services for the V2500 engine, including solutions for life-limited parts, new and serviceable material programs, and engine swaps. These services can be tailored to meet operators’ specific operational and financial needs. The V2500 engine is supported by 13 global facilities that provide maintenance, repair, and overhaul services.
