Chhattisgarh reached a key milestone in India’s semiconductor industry with the official launch of the country’s first Gallium Nitride (GaN) chip manufacturing facility in Nava Raipur. The event was attended by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Eshwara Rao Nandam, the Managing Director and CEO of Polymatech Electronics, the company behind the project.
Polymatech Electronics has committed an additional ₹10,000 crore to expand its operations in the state. The plant, expected to begin production soon, aims to manufacture 10 billion semiconductor chips annually by 2030. The facility will produce cutting-edge 5-nanometer and 3-nanometer chips, some of the smallest and most advanced in the world.
The facility will focus on producing semiconductor modules that are crucial for telecom networks, satellite systems, and the Internet of Things (IoT). The project, with an initial investment of ₹1,143 crore, is a significant step toward establishing Chhattisgarh—and India—as a key player in the global semiconductor market.
The chips made here will power next-generation technologies like 5G and 6G networks, high-performance computing, defence electronics, and advanced data processing systems. During the ceremony, Eshwara Rao Nandam highlighted the strategic importance of Chhattisgarh, citing its supportive industrial policies, modern infrastructure, and the growing industrial hub of Nava Raipur.
“This is more than just the launch of a facility; it is the foundation for India’s future in high-tech manufacturing,” Nandam said. “This plant will help India become a leader in the global electronics value chain.”
Gallium Nitride (GaN) is a revolutionary material for semiconductors. Unlike traditional silicon chips, GaN chips offer improved efficiency, faster speeds, and longer durability. Until now, India has largely relied on imports for these chips. With this new facility, the project will help reduce India’s reliance on foreign imports and boost investment in the country’s electronics sector.
The plant is also expected to create thousands of direct jobs and potentially millions of indirect jobs. A special focus will be placed on training local youth, especially in areas like Bastar and other regions affected by past conflicts, to promote inclusive growth and skill development. The investment deal was finalized at the ‘Chhattisgarh Investor Connect’ event in New Delhi in December 2024.
State officials also praised the swift execution of the project, noting that land allocation in Sector 5 of Nava Raipur was completed in just 45 days, followed by lease registration within 25 days. This efficiency reflects the government’s commitment to fast-tracking high-impact investments.
Polymatech Electronics, a forward-looking technology firm, specializes in developing cutting-edge electronic solutions. With a strong focus on innovation, the company aims to deliver high-performance products that meet the growing demands of the electronics industry.
