Plugzmart, an innovative start-up developed at IIT Madras, has achieved a significant milestone with the approval of its high-capacity electric vehicle (EV) fast charger by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). This approval highlights the company’s commitment to developing technology in India, as its 240kW DC fast charger is entirely built in-house.
Unlike many other chargers in the market, which depend on imported technology, Plugzmart’s fast charger is a product of domestic innovation. The company has designed and manufactured all components, including the hardware, software, controller, and PLC modules, as part of its contribution to India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The charger can recharge high-end electric cars and heavy-duty commercial vehicles in about 20 minutes, according to the company. It is particularly suitable for commercial fleets, long-haul routes, and premium EV segments. The charger’s design emphasizes efficiency, performance, and compliance with both Indian and international safety standards. Additionally, it includes a smart power management feature that optimizes energy use and helps prevent overloads on the power grid, an important consideration as EV charging infrastructure continues to grow.
