NueGo, India’s largest intercity electric bus service operated by GreenCell Mobility, has completed the installation of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) across its entire fleet of more than 275 electric buses.
Since its launch in 2022, the company has focused on passenger safety by introducing these advanced systems before any legal mandate for heavy commercial vehicles came into effect.
The ADAS suite uses a network of cameras, sensors, and radar to monitor road conditions and assist drivers. Key features include automatic emergency braking, electronic stability control, lane departure alerts, and driver drowsiness detection. These tools aim to lower the risk of accidents and improve overall travel safety.
“Our commitment to safety goes beyond what is required. It is at the heart of what we do,” said Devndra Chawla, Managing Director and CEO of GreenCell Mobility. “By installing these systems in every bus, we are setting a new standard for intercity electric travel in India.”
Beyond ADAS, NueGo has introduced several other safety measures. Drivers must take a breathalyzer test before every trip. There are special seats reserved for women passengers, and every bus is fitted with high-definition CCTV cameras, GPS tracking, and real-time monitoring systems. The company also uses smart technology to keep track of driver behavior and alertness.
To support women’s safety, NueGo offers a dedicated helpline. The company ensures that rest stops are clean and secure, and it runs a 24/7 command and control center to oversee operations in real time.
NueGo operates in more than 100 Indian cities, providing long-distance journeys on electric buses that can travel over 250 kilometers on a single charge. Before each trip, every bus goes through 25 safety checks, including mechanical and electrical inspections.
The push for safety comes as India continues to face serious road safety challenges. Government data shows that commercial vehicles are involved in a large number of road accidents.
Electric buses like those operated by NueGo are also playing a growing role in India’s efforts to build a more sustainable transport system. These buses reduce emissions and dependence on fossil fuels, aligning with the country’s climate and energy goals.
GreenCell Mobility, NueGo’s parent company, is leading efforts to promote clean public transportation. Its expanding electric fleet reflects a long-term plan to deliver sustainable mobility solutions designed for the Indian market.
