Valeo, a global automotive supplier, has teamed up with PanGood, an innovative Chinese high-tech company, to develop a new generation of Axial Flux Generator. This partnership marks a significant step forward in the design of compact, lightweight, and highly efficient electric powertrains. The result of their collaboration is a 2-in-1 generator that integrates the motor and inverter into a single, compact unit. This scalable solution is designed to meet the needs of all types of electric vehicles, particularly Extended Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs), which require efficient electric drive systems and smart energy distribution to extend driving range without adding weight or cost.
China has already established itself as a global leader in electric mobility, with a focus on New Energy Vehicles, including Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs). As the electric vehicle market grows, EREVs have emerged as an ideal option, offering the benefits of electric driving while overcoming limitations related to range and charging times. The collaboration between Valeo and PanGood combines PanGood’s expertise in axial flux motor design with Valeo’s leadership in power electronics, inverters, and system integration. Together, they aim to accelerate the adoption of innovative solutions, particularly for EREVs.
Xavier Dupont, CEO of Valeo’s Power Division, emphasized the advantages of the axial flux motor for electric vehicle design. He said, “Axial Flux technology is a key enabler for smart powertrain architectures, especially in EREVs. Maximizing electric range while maintaining a lightweight, compact system is crucial. This partnership with PanGood allows us to combine the best of motor design and power electronics, creating a technically advanced solution ready for global production. Our goal is to unlock new levels of efficiency and modularity for future electric vehicles.”
Henry Han, founder of PanGood, highlighted the company’s extensive experience with axial flux motors. “PanGood has focused on developing and producing axial flux motors for over nine years. The main advantage of these motors is their compact size and lightweight design. We are excited to apply this technology to powertrain applications, with the EREV generator being an ideal fit. We are confident that this partnership with Valeo will lead to great success by delivering the best technical solutions for the industry.”
This collaboration is set to enhance the performance and sustainability of EREVs, supporting the ongoing growth of electric mobility around the world.
